Thompson Alchemists is a community

Thompson Alchemists is a community-based pharmacy which first opened in 1994 and is located at 132 Thompson Street in the landmarked Sullivan-Thompson Historic District. The store maintains a slogan: if you don’t see it, ask for it; which probably explains how its four walls and the shelves in between have become filled with the over-the-counter pharmaceutical and cosmetic products by demand. In their video, co-owner Gary Alony said “We’re part of the Sullivan Thompson Historic District, we’ve embedded ourselves in this community – we have no choice because it’s in our soul. When we first walked down here we fell in love with it; there would be no reason not to landmark something like this. ” About his store which he co-owns with wife Jolie, he said it’s “essentially a community wellness store that’s customized by the neighborhood…It’s about a unique experience; a part of community wellness has been lost with big box stores.” The video shows some of the unique health and wellness products which they make on site themselves, as well as their “Thompson Street Medicine Show,” a bi-weekly Tuesday event which has been going on for two years, featuring musical performances and food and a party to which all are invited.
